Creston, B.C., August 30, 2024: The Town of Creston is pleased to announce that it has purchased the Armitage Building located at 121 Northwest Boulevard from the Chamber of Commerce.
“The Town’s vision is to transform the building into a permanent public space dedicated to promoting tourism, arts, culture and heritage within the Creston Valley.” Mayor DeBoon noted, furthering, “The purchase of this building was made possible with the generous support of the Columbia Basin Trust, who contributed $366,000 through their Land Acquisition Grant.”
The Armitage Building is ideally situated between Creston’s iconic grain elevators and ʔak̓uǂni. Given its location, the purchase supports the shared economic development goals between the Town and the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), by providing a permanent location for Creston Valley Visitor Centre.
At present no changes in tenancy to the building are anticipated. The Town is looking forward to working with the current tenants and planning for a bright and community-use oriented future.
