How Creston looks and feels is shaped by the Official Community Plan. The Official Community Plan is a land-use planning tool that guides Council and staff in their decision and strategies for development, zoning, services, and other infrastructure and amenities. Did you know that the Official Community Plan includes an entire section on Parks and Recreation?
To help the Town of Creston move forward on these guiding policies, the Town of Creston developed a Parks Master Plan. The purpose of the Plan is to guide the maintenance of current parks and provide a comprehensive vision when considering new parks. The Plan heavily focuses on sustainable resource management, community collaboration, accessibility and inclusivity, cultural integration and celebration in public spaces, and environmental stewardship. This Plan works in collaboration with the Trails Master Plan and Multi-modal Transportation Plan to develop a connected and playful Creston.
Why bother having a master plan? Firstly, to get grant funding, you need a master plan. Secondly, it establishes policies which Council can use to prioritize actions while ensuring consistency with the community's long-term plans.
