It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of retired Creston Fire Chief Bruce Mabin, who passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.

Bruce dedicated his life to the fire service, beginning his career in 1977 with the City of Lethbridge before joining the Town of Creston as Fire Chief in 2000. Over the next 12 years, he led our fire department with unwavering dedication and professionalism until his retirement in December 2012, marking an impressive 35-year career in public service.

Mike Moore, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Creston, reflected on Bruce’s many years of service and their time working together, “I had the privilege of working alongside Bruce for many years at the fire department and witnessed firsthand his commitment to serving others. He will be remembered not only as a dedicated Fire Chief but also as a valued colleague, mentor, and friend.”

Bruce leaves behind his loving partner, Laura Dodman, who currently serves as Creston’s Assistant Fire Chief, as well as his two sons, Gabe and Duncan, and many cherished grandchildren.

Our flags, currently at half-mast in honor of the late Premier John Horgan, will remain lowered to pay tribute to Chief Mabin’s service, leadership and contributions to our community.
