COVID-19 Update - September 8, 2020

Creston, BC – September 8, 2020: This year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the planning and preparation for the return to school has required a new level of consideration to ensure the health and safety of everyone. To all teachers, administrators, and school staff – thank you for your tireless and thoughtful work developing back to school safety plans that will guide this year’s return to in-class and alternate ways of learning. And to all students, parents and caregivers, on behalf of Town of Creston Council, I wish you the best of luck and a successful school year as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together.

Provincial Health Officer Order on Bars, Nightclubs and Banquet Halls amendedAll nightclubs and stand-alone banquet halls are ordered closed until further notice. Liquor sales in all bars, pubs and restaurants must cease at 10 pm and they must close at 11 pm unless providing a full meal service, in which case they may stay open but may not serve liquor until 11 am the following day. Music or other background sounds, such as from televisions in bars, lounges, pubs and restaurants, must be no louder than the volume of a normal conversation so that patrons do not have to shout.  For more information on the Provincial Health Officer’s Orders, please visit: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/about-bc-s-health-care-system/office-of-the-provincial-health-officer/current-health-topics/covid-19-novel-coronavirus

Mental Health Supports for Post Secondary Students:  We know that students beginning or returning to their post-secondary studies this fall may be feeling apprehensive about many things – including all the normal concerns like course work, relationships, employment on top of navigating the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. “I want anyone who feels alone or isolated or overwhelmed to know that it is OK to not be OK and that there is help for you when you need it, 24/7.  Students can access chat sessions with a trained counsellor at here2talk.ca or by downloading the Here2Talk app. Students can also speak to a counsellor by phone (toll free 1 877 857-3397 or direct 604 642-5212). Students calling from outside Canada can dial +1 604 642-5212 (international calling charges may apply).
