[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Update - April 29, 2020

Creston, BC – April 29, 2020:  Town of Creston Council and Staff would like to thank each and every one of you for holding the line and responding to the demands that COVID-19 has made on us. We know that it hasn’t been easy. We have become teachers, found ways to explain complex issues to our children, learned to support loved ones from a distance and in turn be supported in the same way. We are physically distant with friends and neighbours in the grocery store, are working from home where possible and almost every aspect of our daily lives has changed. Provincial and Federal leaders are starting to discuss a gradual, phased return to a “new normal”. These discussions are possible because of the actions we have all taken at an individual level.

Provincial State of Emergency Extended: British Columbia’s state of emergency has been extended for an additional two weeks, through to the end of the day on May 12, 2020. This state of emergency will continue to support the measures taken by the Province under the Emergency Program Act to keep people safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

British Columbia Emergency Worker Benefit: A reminder that the Provincial Emergency Worker Benefit opens to applications on Friday May 1, 2020. This benefit provides a tax-free, one time $1,000 payment for B.C. residents whose ability to work has been affected due to COVID-19. To learn more, or find out if you are eligible please visit:

Regional District of Central Kootenay - Creston Landfill: The Creston landfill will continue to accept yard & garden waste for free during the month of May. In addition, some of the temporary restrictions that were in place have been lifted. For full details please read the RDCK news release here.
