After receiving input from the Community Fire Hall Advisory Select Committee (ASC) and from the ASC’s Open Houses this June, Town Council has taken an important step to seek voter input to borrow funds for a new Fire Hall.
At a Special Council meeting held on July 5, Council authorized Town staff to prepare a draft Protective Services Loan Authorization Bylaw for review by the Province and moved to hold a Referendum in conjunction with the October 20th, 2018 municipal election, subject to Provincial approval.
“Council has directed staff to prepare a draft Loan Authorization Bylaw that would be sent to the Province for review prior to receiving three readings by Council. Following three readings, the Bylaw would then be sent back to the Province for inspection and final approval, which is an approximately six week process. This is the first step in the lengthy Referendum approval process,” said Mayor Ron Toyota.
In accordance with Provincial legislation, the Protective Services Loan Authorization Bylaw includes the maximum borrowing amount and term of the loan.
